Leather pinafore dress - Zara (old but similar here)
Pink satchel - Zatchels
Ankle socks - ASOS
Silver heels - Topshop (old but similar here)
This is one of my favourite dresses at the moment. It was purchased for a mere £18 in the Zara summer sale but is actually proving to be much more suited to my autumn/ winter wardrobe. I first coined this particular incarnation of the leather dress at fashion week, which for me always has that back to school for a new term feeling, which I think explains the thinking behind the satchel, shirt and ankle socks.
At first glance I have to admit the leather dress was not top of my wishlist - it brings with it connotations of all things clingy, sweaty, rubbery - things that bring me out in hives quite frankly. But the great thing about this style is the skirt is flared in shape, meaning it's only tight where you need it to be - in the waist. Much more flattering I assure you.
While I have worn it for evening with bare legs and arms and oozings of gold jewellery, my preferred option is definitely dressing it for day with a shirt underneath and (now) a winter coat on top! My Georgia Hardinge shirt forms the perfect accompaniment as its patterned collar works so well against the black leather plus the long sleeves keep the look chic rather than cheap.
My amazing fluoro pink Zatchels satchel hasn't got much airtime on the blog but is definitely a favourite - gaining points alone for it's glow in the dark appearance (a valuable attribute not to be mocked in this current, dark at 3pm, state).
Ankle socks and shoes are a bit of guilty pleasure for me. I've been rocking them long before they ever became cool believe me, but this may be the last time you see bare legs on the blog for a while as my pasty Scottish skin has retired back into the hibernation of black opaque tights and probably won't emerge again until 2014 is well under way.
Are you a fan of leather dresses?
P.S apologies for the ridiculous bags under my eyes in these photos, even Photoshop couldn't cure them. I don't remember what I was doing the night before these were taken but clearly it wasn't sleeping!
