If there’s one thing every girl needs in the run up to Christmas, it’s a festive red dress – am I right? Red isn’t normally a colour I find frequenting my wardrobe all that much, but come December the need to co-ordinate with Mr Claus becomes so much more appealing.

Normally my red dress of choice might be a little party number, something feminine, fun and flirty (perhaps like this Zara pretty?) but hitting the third trimester of pregnancy this Winter has made fun, feminine and flirty a little trickier than usual and comfort reluctantly winning out. So, this little shift dress is my go-to this season, with the soft and cosy jacquard fabric being oh so comfy and the loose sixties style shape serving me well throughout pregnancy. Again it’s not maternity (I’m really not that great at maternity dressing am I?) and I just sized up one, but the stretchy fabric has meant it’s worked for me for a good few months with the bump only just becoming visible in it.
Being heavily pregnant over Winter is significantly harder to style out than the summer months and I’ve found that layering up for the cold weather is no longer quite as enjoyable. Coats have become a particular bugbear of mine, with me now unable to do any of my existing ones up and refusing to buy a specific maternity coat that I’ll only wear for two months.
Boden came to my rescue with this navy wool wrap style though, which is currently the only outerwear that actually closes around my middle without popping open. All hail the wrap! Plus it’s made from the softest material and basically makes me feel like I’m wearing my dressing gown outdoors (always a good thing).
Red and navy is one of my favourite colour combos and set against that December frosty chill with the last of the leaves falling from the trees, this dress and coat were screaming to be paired together. I dug out this Barbour tartan scarf back in October and it’s lived around my neck ever since (again who can resist red tartan in Winter?) and all that was left to add was an equally festive little red bag (you’ll have to excuse my over – coordination).
You may have spotted me (or my feet at least) over on the Boden blog this week talking about festive footwear, and my shoes of choice were these navy jewelled flats which feel slightly fancy while still being comfy enough to walk in all day while seven months preggo. I’ll be wearing them with jeans or sparkly leggings over Christmas with a dressy top to keep me feeling party ready.
Being freelance I don’t have much opportunity for festive party clothes these days. There’s no Christmas Jumper Day to organise and the office Christmas party is a much smaller affair (hello party of one!) but it’s a bit of a tradition of mine to dress up over the holidays and I couldn’t resist a few dressier buys. Check back next week when I’ll be sharing some pregnancy friendly party looks (and finally some maternity items you can get inspired by).
