I feel as if I’ve announced the arrival of autumn numerous times here, on social media, and to myself as I excitedly gather favourite knitwear from the back of the wardrobe and dig ankle boots out from under the bed. And then out of nowhere the sun will shine again, I’ll be sweating in my ridiculously keen attempt at layering and be back in my slogan tees by the time I’ve reached home.
Now I’m all for an Indian Summer, but I’m also just a tad excited to don cosy jumpers, drink hot chocolates and take a million #fwis pics in the fallen leaves. Because autumn is definitely one of my faves – those delicious (don’t you love it when you can describe the weather as ‘delicious’? Or is that just me?) days where the skies are bright and blue, the sun is shining and yet there’s that lovely frosty nip in the air that makes wearing a jumper while still having bare legs/bare ankles/no coat possible. It’s not yet so cold that your pretty outfits are shrouded in huge padded coats and having your face outside for more than five minutes feels like a very icy torture, but it’s cold enough that you can wrap up in a toasty jumper, and sit outside with your hands wrapped around a hot drink.
And this time I don’t think I’m jumping the gun by calling it. The leaves are red, the conkers are falling, the cold mornings and dark evenings are here and the temperature has definitely dropped.
Which means only one thing – it’s time for my annual round up of my favourite cosy jumpers on the interweb, because who doesn’t love shopping for knitwear?? P.S sorry for the Americanism in the title – I rarely call a jumper a sweater in real life but ‘sweater weather’ just has more of a ring to it don’t you think?
This season, those typical autumn colours of dark red, mustard yellow and burgundy are coming out on top (although I’m still partial to a pink hue) alongside some pretty pastels, sleeves are still very much making a statement, shapes are oversized and necklines are high and frilly.
Scroll down to see my favourite picks, a few of which you’ll be seeing pop up in outfit posts very soon. I’ve mainly linked to high street heroes because with trend led pieces you don’t want to spend a fortune, but I’ve sneaked a few cashmere numbers in too if you’re after an investment piece.
